On Wednesday 15 November 2023 Great western Railway are launching our new Pay-as-you-Go scheme in West Cornwall.
They have worked with Cornwall Council to launch this touch smartcard scheme, with tickets and payments rolled into one. A customer simply needs to register for a smartcard, link to their bank account, and then they’ll be able to tap in and out using card readers at stations between Penzance and Par (including the St Ives and Falmouth branch lines) – and it’s valid on both GWR and CrossCountry services.
The scheme has daily and weekly capping in place to ensure customers are charged the best value fare, railcards can be added to a customer’s account, and also introduces automated Delay Repay notifications – all making it simpler to travel, encouraging modal shift, and supporting Cornish residents and businesses, as well as visitors to Cornwall.
Customers can sign up for a smartcard and find out more information about the scheme here: https://www.gwr.com/your-tickets/smart-tickets/payg/cornwall.
Plans to extend the scheme to the rest of Cornwall through to Plymouth were included in Cornwall Council’s successful bid to the Government’s Levelling Up programme for the Mid Cornwall Metro, and will follow as part of that programme in the coming years.
Any help you can give to promote this exciting new scheme and encourage sign-ups would be much appreciated – our media release is available to share here: https://news.gwr.com/news/sign-up-for-a-smarter-way-to-travel-across-west-cornwall.
